Oscar on Top:Piastri Takes Zandvoort Pole
At Zandvoort, where overtaking is notoriously challenging, qualifying is often the key to race success. With a narrow, twisty layout and minimal margin for error, securing a strong grid position is essential, as one small mistake can end a session and a weekend.
Saturday’s final practice session went off without incident.Lando Norris topped the timesheets, closely followed by his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, with the rest of the field trailing by a notable margin.
In Q1, drama unfolded early as Lance Stroll suffered his second crash of the weekend, going off before Turn 13. Despite the interruption, the session remained tightly contested, with just three-tenths covering 14 drivers. Failing to advance were Colapinto, Hulkenberg, Ocon, Bearman, and Stroll.
Q2 brought a surprising visitor to the circuit a fox darted across the track in front of Charles Leclerc’s car, though fortunately without incident. Norris once again set the pace, narrowly edging Piastri. Knocked out in this round were Antonelli, Tsunoda, Bortoleto, Gasly, and Albon.
The final shootout in Q3 was a McLaren showdown.Piastri delivered a near-perfect lap of 1:08.662 to take pole position, just 0.01s ahead of Norris. It’s McLaren’s fourth front-row lockout this season and the 70th in their F1 history. Behind them,Max Verstappen lines up third alongside an impressive Isack Hadjar. George Russell and Charles Leclerc will start from the third row, setting the stage for a thrilling Sunday.
