Piastri Powers to P2 in Hungary
Lando Norris stormed to victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, closing the gap to teammate Oscar Piastri to just nine points in the title race. The win marked McLaren’s 200th in F1, with Piastri’s second place securing the team’s fourth straight 1–2 finish in a dominant run.
Oscar Piastri (2nd place): "I gave it absolutely everything. As soon as it became clear that Lando had switched to a one-stop strategy, I knew I would have to overtake him on track — which is, of course, much easier said than done. Either way, any strategy we chose today came with risk, and unfortunately, we ended up on the less favorable side.
That said, the team did a fantastic job — the car came alive in the second half of the race. The car felt great all weekend, and I’m very thankful to the entire team for that.
Lando’s decision to go for a one-stop wasn’t a huge surprise — in his situation, he had very little to lose. As for whether trying to undercut Leclerc was the right call, I’m not entirely sure yet. That’s something we’ll review and discuss internally.
To get past Lando, I needed to force him into a mistake — and to do that, I had to be just a few hundredths closer. I felt I had my best chance and went for the move. In moments like that, you can’t hesitate — there might not be another opportunity. I gave it a try, but this time, it didn’t work out."
