Pierre Gasly’s Monaco Penalty Case to Be Reviewed by FIA
The FIA is set to hear appeals from Red Bull and McLaren regarding the penalties imposed on Pierre Gasly during the Monaco Grand Prix, which were later overturned. Gasly received two time penalties for exceeding the pit-lane speed limit. While other drivers served their penalties during the race, Gasly’s additional time was added to his final result after the chequered flag. Following the race, Alpine protested the penalties, arguing that the pit-lane measurements used by the stewards were incorrect. The protest was upheld, with the stewards concluding that the pit lane had been measured incorrectly and, consequently, that the speed calculation was also affected. Gasly’s penalties were therefore cancelled, promoting him to third place ahead of Isack Hadjar and Oscar Piastri, who had served his own penalty during the race. Red Bull and McLaren have appealed the decision, with the FIA now set to review the case and determine whether the penalties should remain overturned. The hearing will take place behind closed doors, with access limited to authorised participants to protect the confidentiality of the proceedings.
