Pirelli Dedicates Podcast to 500th Grand Prix and 75th Anniversary of F1
The Italian company Pirelli marked two major milestones its 500th Grand Prix and the 75th anniversary of the World Championship with the release of a special episode of the Box Box Box podcast. The episode was hosted by 1996 World Champion Damon Hill and journalist Tom Clarkson.Among the invited guests were Formula 1 President Stefano Domenicali, McLaren CEO Zak Brown, former F1 Sporting Director Ross Brawn, 1978 World Champion Mario Andretti, Hollywood producer of F1:The Movie Jerry Bruckheimer, and Pirelli Vice President Giovanni Tronchetti Provera.
The guests shared personal memories and reflected on the development of F1.
Stefano Domenicali spoke about starting his career at Ferrari more than three decades ago, the lessons he learned from Jean Todt and Luca di Montezemolo, and emphasized Michael Schumacher’s crucial role in transforming the team.
Ross Brawn noted that in the late 1970s F1 teams consisted of only a handful of people, whereas today they have grown into vast organizations. In his view, the most significant changes have been in the area of safety, which has saved many drivers’ lives.
Mario Andretti admitted he wished he were 50 years younger to be able to compete in modern Formula 1, which has enjoyed remarkable growth, particularly in the United States. He stressed that champions of the past could win in the present as well, since driver skill remains just as decisive today.
This special podcast served as a reminder of the journey Formula 1 has taken from small, high-risk teams to a global, high-tech sport with safety at its core.
