Ten Years Without JB17:Never Forgotten
Exactly ten years ago today, the talented driver Jules Bianchi passed away. On October 5, 2014, during the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, the young racer sustained severe head injuries in a rain‑affected event—the first fatal Formula 1 incident since the tragic weekend at Imola in 1994, which claimed the lives of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna.
Bianchi remained in an induced coma for nine months and sadly died on 17 July 2015, at the hospital in Nice. His passing continues to be remembered across the motorsport world.
Graeme Lowdon, team principal of Cadillac and formerly with Marussia, reflected:
“Today we remember our friend #JB17...but we also recall another day—the 2014 British Grand Prix, when Jules qualified 12th, ahead of both Ferraris, both Williams, both Saubers, and both Caterhams.”
The number 17,under which Bianchi competed, was officially retired from Formula1.
Bianchi was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and served as the godfather to the current Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc. The official Formula 1 account posted on social media:
“Remembering Jules Bianchi. Today. And every day.”
