Turkey Targets Long-Term F1 Deal
Turkish Government Pursues Long-Term Return of Formula 1 to Istanbul
Turkish authorities are actively engaged in efforts to bring Formula 1 back to Istanbul, with the objective of securing a permanent place on the championship calendar. While discussions have been ongoing for some time, recent developments indicate that Turkey is taking concrete steps toward rejoining the Formula 1 schedule.
President of the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation, Eren Uclertopragi , confirmed that the Istanbul Park circuit is prepared to host a Grand Prix as early as 2026, in the event that one of the currently scheduled races is canceled.
“Our primary objective is to reintroduce the Turkish Grand Prix as a permanent fixture on the Formula 1 calendar," Uclertopragi stated in an interview with local media. “The government is firmly committed to this goal and is working towards a long-term agreement with Formula 1. While the 2026 calendar has already been finalized, we are ready to step in and host the event should any scheduled round be withdrawn.”
Unlike its temporary return during the COVID-19 pandemic—when Turkey served as a one-time substitute—this initiative is focused on securing a long-term presence in the sport. The organizers are actively pursuing a multi-year contract to ensure Istanbul Park’s regular inclusion in future seasons.
“We have received strong support and formal approval from the government. All financial obligations and logistical arrangements associated with the event will be conducted under full state guarantees,” Uclertopragi added.
