Turn 11 Sparks Alpine Test Shutdown

Franco Colapinto Incident Interrupts Pirelli Tyre Testing at Hungaroring

The second day of Pirelli’s in-season tyre testing at the Hungaroring was interrupted on Wednesday following a significant accident involving Alpine’s junior driver,Franco Colapinto.

The Argentine was participating in the morning session for Alpine, alongside Charles Leclerc, who was representing Ferrari. The incident occurred in the high-speed Turn 11, where Colapinto lost control of the car and made heavy contact with the barriers.

Following the crash, Colapinto was promptly transported to the circuit’s medical centre for routine evaluation. Medical personnel later confirmed that the driver had not sustained any injuries.

In an official statement, Alpine confirmed:

“During the second day of Pirelli tyre testing, Franco Colapinto was involved in an incident at Turn 11. He was taken to the medical centre for evaluation, and we can confirm he is unharmed.”

Pierre Gasly was originally scheduled to take over driving duties in the afternoon session. However, due to the extent of the damage to the car, Alpine's participation in the remainder of the test is now in question. The team’s engineers are currently assessing the feasibility of repairs within the available timeframe.

The incident represents a temporary setback in Colapinto’s development programme, as the young driver continues to accumulate valuable experience in contemporary Formula 1 machinery.
