Vandoorne:Alonso Giving His Absolute Best

Aston Martin made it clear from the outset that it does not place high expectations on the current season, having instead directed all available resources toward thorough preparation for the 2026 campaign, which the team views as a pivotal opportunity for a breakthrough. A key figure in this effort is legendary engineer Adrian Newey, who is overseeing the development of the new car under the significantly revised technical regulations.Reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne, who continues to balance his duties with Aston Martin alongside racing commitments in FormulaE and the World Endurance Championship (WEC), spoke to AS about the intensive work underway:

“The summer period was particularly demanding, as development of the 2026 project has accelerated significantly. The team is undergoing major internal changes, and I’m pleased to be part of that evolution,” the 33-year-old Belgian noted.

The challenge is further complicated by the team’s forthcoming partnership with Honda, set to begin in 2026, which introduces additional uncertainty into performance projections.

“At this stage, it’s difficult to make concrete predictions,” Vandoorne continued. “However, Aston Martin now has all the necessary tools both in terms of technology and personnel to reach the next level. We hope to see clear progress as early as next season.”

Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, continues to impress with his consistency and unwavering commitment.

“He gives absolutely everything. Of course, no one can guarantee immediate success in 2026, but what’s certain is that the team is working with full dedication to ensure every department operates at its best.”

Vandoorne also reflected on his season with Maserati in the Formula E World Championship:

“It’s been a mixed year — we’ve had strong performances as well as missed opportunities. That said, many teams are in a similar position. My win in Tokyo, my first in three years, was especially rewarding. Winning is always a great feeling. I have a contract in place and will continue racing in Formula E next season.”
