Verstappen Eyes Le Mans After Nurburgring Experience
Max Verstappen on the Nurburgring and His Future Goals
On Thursday in Baku, Max Verstappen reflected on his recent outing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
“In order to obtain my license, I had to compete in a GT4 car. It’s not the most powerful machine, but even in such circumstances there is much to learn. The rain and heavy traffic made the race even more valuable. My dream is to one day compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and this experience brought me closer to that goal,” Verstappen said.
He noted that Helmut Marko welcomed his interest in endurance racing: “He has his own experience in this field, so he understands why it’s so important to me.”
The Dutchman also admitted that balancing endurance events with the Formula 1 calendar will not be easy, particularly with the new regulations coming into effect. “We will see how things develop. No one can predict what will happen in five or ten years,” he remarked.
Addressing the idea of the “Triple Crown,” Verstappen was clear: “Le Mans interests me, but the crown itself does not. I enjoy watching IndyCar, but I have no desire to compete there.”
