Zandvoort Moves On from Formula1
Dutch Grand Prix to Conclude in 2026:Organisers Prepare for the Final Race
In December, it was officially announced that the Dutch Grand Prix will be held for the final time in 2026. In an interview with RacingNews365, race director Robert van Overdijk shared his thoughts on the upcoming events and the conclusion of the current contract.
"For now, it feels like just another race, but next year, when it’s truly the final one for us, the emotions will certainly be different," he admitted. "I believe the last edition will evoke feelings similar to those we experienced when Formula 1 returned to Zandvoort only in reverse.Everyone realises the significance of this event for the Netherlands, but Formula 1 will move on to new regions and continents. It may be many years before it returns here if ever."
According to van Overdijk, Formula 1 initially expressed disappointment with the decision, but ultimately understood the reasoning. “Like Silverstone, we receive no government funding. The financial burden is carried entirely by three private entities the circuit, TIG Sports, and SportVibes. We organise this major event entirely at our own risk. Despite this, our collaboration with Formula 1 remains strong, and we are fully committed to making the final two editions outstanding."
He concluded by reaffirming that the decision was made with full confidence:"All doubts are behind us. It was a conscious, well-considered choice, and we are now focused solely on the future."
