Alex Dunne Dominates Spa to Secure F2 Pole

Alex Dunne Claims Pole in Competitive Qualifying at Spa.

Qualifying for the Belgian round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship concluded on Friday, following a fiercely contested session at Spa-Francorchamps. As pole position in F2 awards valuable championship points, the results of this session are expected to significantly influence the title battle.

Alex Dunne delivered an outstanding performance, setting the pace early and maintaining his advantage throughout. Despite pressure from Leonardo Fornaroli, the Irish driver could not be matched and ultimately secured pole with a benchmark time of 1:57.863.

With this result, Dunne outqualified key title rivals Gabriele Minì and Victor Martins, strengthening his position in the championship fight.

A notable surprise came from Ritomo Miyata, who delivered his strongest qualifying result to date in Formula 2, securing second place on the grid. Minì and Martins will start the Feature Race from third and fourth, respectively.

An unexpected turn of events saw championship leader Richard Verschoor qualify in 11th position, narrowly missing out on the top ten — a result that could prove pivotal in the championship standings.

As a result, Alex Dunne will start Sunday’s Feature Race from pole position.

Due to the reverse-grid format applied to the top ten qualifiers in Formula 2, Oliver Goethe, who qualified 10th, will start Saturday’s Sprint Race from pole position.
