Argentina Eyes Formula 1 Return in 2028 or 2029 After MotoGP Race

The Argentine Grand Prix could return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2028 or 2029. The event was held in the country 20 times between 1953 and 1998, and organisers in Buenos Aires are now working to bring the race back to the championship. The immediate priority is to modernise the Oscar Alfredo Galvez Circuit and bring the venue into line with current FIA and FIM requirements. The project is being led by former rally driver Orlando Terranova, who heads the ODS group, which could become the promoter of the potential Grand Prix. The first major test will come with the MotoGP Argentina Grand Prix in April 2027. The organisers aim to demonstrate that Buenos Aires is capable of hosting an international motorsport event to the highest standards. A successful MotoGP event would then pave the way for negotiations over a potential Formula 1 return. Terranova has stressed that the current priority is to complete the necessary circuit and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring that Buenos Aires is fully prepared to host a race whenever an opportunity arises. According to Terranova, the project has been progressing for several years in cooperation with Formula 1, MotoGP, the FIA and the FIM.
