The Cadillac team has officially announced the signing of Colton Herta, a nine-time IndyCar race winner. The American driver has been appointed as a test driver and will play a key role in preparing the team for its Formula 1 debut in 2026.
Herta’s detailed racing program will be revealed at a later date. At the same time, there remains the possibility of his participation in Formula 2, which would allow him to earn the necessary points for a super license required to compete in the World Championship.
Herta described the signing as a “major step toward a long-standing dream” of racing in Formula 1. He emphasized his determination to make the most of this opportunity, focusing on helping Cadillac build a competitive team.
Team principal Graham Loudon stressed that the arrival of an American driver in an American Formula 1 team holds special significance not only for the project itself but also for the entire U.S. motorsport community. According to him, Herta’s experience at the highest level of racing, combined with his speed and maturity, makes him a valuable addition to the team. Moreover, his fresh perspective and energy are expected to contribute meaningfully to the project’s development.
Thus, the signing of Colton Herta represents an important step for Cadillac on the road to its Formula 1 debut and a symbol of the strengthening role of American motorsport on the global stage.
