Carlos Sainz Furious With Liam
The incident between Carlos Sainz and Liam Lawson in Zandvoort resulted in a double puncture. Both drivers managed to reach the pits on damaged tyres, but the Spaniard was additionally handed a 10-second penalty.
Carlos Sainz: “I do not understand why I was penalized. In that corner, two cars can run side by side without contact, but Lawson always drives too aggressively. I was not attempting an overtake I was simply holding the outside line to set myself up for a better trajectory. The collision came as a surprise, and in the end, I lost ten points and a place in the top five. With other drivers, I have never had issues in similar situations. If the stewards believe that the one on the outside should be blamed, then that raises serious concerns. As a driver and as a GPDA director, I intend to raise this matter.”
Liam Lawson: “I am also disappointed the incident ruined my race. But it was Carlos who initiated the move: he went for the attack, the risk did not pay off, and he was penalized. On cold tyres after a restart, such manoeuvres are always risky.I think it would be better to discuss this directly rather than through the media.”
