Colapinto Back on Track

On Wednesday morning, Franco Colapinto was involved in an accident during the Pirelli tyre test sessions intended for the 2026 season. The impact with the safety barrier was severe enough that, as a precaution, the Alpine team driver was taken to the medical centre at the Hungaroring circuit for examination.

The medical staff assessed Colapinto and released him shortly thereafter, having found no serious injuries. Later in the day, Franco returned to the track—not as part of the tyre testing programme, but under the TPC (Testing of a Previous Car) programme, driving the Alpine A523 from the 2023 season. Earlier in the day, the same car was tested under the TPC programme by Pierre Gasly. In the afternoon, Gasly was scheduled to replace Colapinto for the Pirelli tests. However, due to the significant damage sustained by the specially modified car used for those tests, it remained uncertain whether Gasly would be able to take part in the session at all.
