Drugovich Replaces Alonso at Aston Martin
Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team Issues Update on Driver Line-Up for Belgian GP Weekend
On Friday morning, the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team issued an official statement regarding a temporary change to its driver line-up for the start of the race weekend.
“Following the Belgian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has been undergoing medical treatment for a muscular issue in his back. Despite showing signs of progress, his recovery process continued into this morning. After further evaluation and consultation with the team’s medical staff, Fernando made the decision to sit out the first free practice session (FP1) as a precaution, prioritising his long-term fitness and performance.
In his absence, the team’s designated reserve driver, Felipe Drugovich, will step in to take part in FP1 alongside Lance Stroll. Felipe will assist in completing the scheduled programme for the session, providing valuable feedback to the engineering team as preparations for the weekend continue.
The team will closely monitor Fernando’s condition and assess his readiness to return to the cockpit ahead of the second free practice session and subsequent sessions throughout the race weekend.
A final decision on his participation in the remainder of the event will be made in due course, pending ongoing medical evaluations.”
