Envision Signs Joel Eriksson as New Formula E Driver
Next season, Envision Racing’s line-up will see a change: 27-year-old Swede Joel Eriksson will join Sébastien Buemi as his new teammate. For the team, Eriksson is not an entirely unfamiliar face he has previously tested their cars and competed in the Berlin round of Formula E, where he left a strong impression on engineers and management. Now, the British-Chinese outfit has chosen to formalize the collaboration by signing him to a multi-year contract.
Eriksson’s experience in Formula E is broader than that. In 2021,he contested eight races for Dragon/Penske, and last season served as a reserve driver for Jaguar. Beyond Formula E, Joel has a rich motorsport background: he spent two seasons in the prestigious DTM series, where he secured a victory at Misano, and began his single-seater career back in 2015 in the Russian SMP Formula 4 championship.
The driver himself does not hide that joining Envision Racing is a milestone in his career: “Signing with Envision Racing is a very important step for me, something I have been working towards for a long time. I am grateful to the team for their trust and already looking forward to starting my first full season in Formula E.”
Until recently, Envision’s seat belonged to Robin Frijns, but in August the team announced the end of its long-standing partnership with the Dutchman, paving the way for the arrival of a new driver.
