Evans Wins Wild Sao Paulo E-Prix
Formula E: Epic Victory for Evans in Sao Paulo
Mitch Evans (Jaguar) delivered a sensational win at the Sao Paulo round of the Formula E World Championship, having started from the very back of the grid in 22nd position. This marks only the second time in series history that a driver has won a race after starting last.
Qualifying was a disaster for Jaguar, as technical issues prevented Evans from setting a single lap time. Pole position went to Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche), who would ultimately become the race’s biggest casualty—his car flipped in a dramatic crash, though fortunately, he was unharmed.
The race unfolded on a narrow street circuit and featured multiple incidents, two red flags, and several changes in the lead. Oliver Rowland (Nissan) led for much of the race but was penalized for overpowering, receiving a drive-through penalty. Evans and his teammate Nick Cassidy made strategic use of the Attack Mode, propelling themselves into the top three. Following Rowland’s penalty, Evans moved into the lead.
Evans crossed the finish line first, followed by Antonio Felix da Costa (Porsche) in second. Third place went to 20-year-old Taylor Barnard (McLaren), who claimed his first podium of the season.
