F2 Champion Fornaroli Gears Up for McLaren F1
21-year-old Italian driver Leonardo Fornaroli, the newly crowned Formula 2 champion with Invicta Racing, has joined McLaren’s junior program and is already focused on reaching Formula 1. In 2024, he won the Formula 3 title literally on the final lap, an experience that helped prepare him for the battle in F2.
“Last year taught me a lot, especially how to stay composed in high-pressure situations,” Fornaroli said. “Now I aim to remain consistent and take advantage of every opportunity on track.”
Having secured the F2 championship, Leonardo will conclude his career in the series but is preparing for new challenges with McLaren. “We are developing my program with the team, which includes WEC and IndyCar,but my main focus is Formula 1,” he added.
Fornaroli maintains a close friendship with Kimi Antonelli, a Mercedes driver, whom he has known since childhood. His interest in racing began in karting, introduced to him by his father.
In Abu Dhabi, Fornaroli plans to help Invicta Racing win the team championship and will also be following the fight for the Formula 1 title, where the outcome remains unpredictable.
