FOM Files Lawsuit Against Counterfeit Merchandisers in Las Vegas

Formula One Management (FOM), the exclusive holder of all commercial rights to the FIA Formula One World Championship, has once again demonstrated its firm stance on the enforcement of intellectual property rights.The issue has become particularly pressing in Las Vegas a city where Formula 1 not only hosts a Grand Prix but also acts as the primary commercial stakeholder in the event. In this context, the presence of counterfeit merchandise bearing the championship’s branding in public and retail spaces has raised serious concerns among the rights holders.

According to FOX5 Las Vegas, FOM has filed a lawsuit against two local businesses accused of selling unauthorized Formula 1 merchandise. During a law enforcement operation, a total of 69 counterfeit items including T-shirts, caps, and other products featuring illegally reproduced F1 branding were seized.

The legal complaint alleges that the defendants deliberately misled fans by presenting fake merchandise as official licensed products. It is further believed that the individuals in question possessed thousands of such items intended for resale during the Grand Prix weekend, potentially causing both financial and reputational harm to FOM.

In its lawsuit, Formula One Management accuses the companies of “intentional misrepresentation, fraudulent conduct, and unfair business practices.” The organization is seeking $1 million in damages, including legal fees, and is demanding the complete destruction of all seized counterfeit goods.

For Formula 1, particularly amid its growing popularity in the United States, the fight against counterfeiting is of critical importance. Official merchandise sales represent a significant revenue stream, and any unauthorized distribution is viewed as a direct threat to the interests of the championship, its teams, and commercial partners.

This incident in Las Vegas serves as a clear reminder that FOM remains fully committed to protecting its intellectual property and will continue to take decisive legal action against any unauthorized use of the Formula 1 brand.
