Formula 2:Fornaroli Triumphs in Monza Sprint Home Race
After Formula 2 qualifying in Monza, the sprint race grid underwent changes: Richard Verschoor was penalized for the incident that caused red flags, his best lap time was deleted, and instead of starting from second, he lined up 14th on the grid.
Pole position went to Dino Beganovic, with Sami Meguetounif alongside and championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli in third. In the opening chicane, the Italian moved up to second, and by lap eight he overtook Beganovic to take the lead.Shortly after, Arvid Lindblad followed suit.
Further back, the battles were intense: Meguetounif collided with Alex Dunne, while later Victor Martins and Oliver Goethe encountered problems. Sebastian Montoya charged through the field from 21st to the top 10, while Verschoor steadily climbed to fifth.
In the closing laps, Dino Beganovic received a five-second penalty, which promoted Joshua Durksen onto the podium.
Victory went to Fornaroli, who crossed the line 1.6 seconds ahead of Lindblad. It was his fourth win of the season and second in succession, significantly strengthening his lead in the standings. Verschoor, who gained ten positions to finish fourth, moved up to second place in the drivers’ championship.
