Formula 2:Four Drivers Hit with Penalties
The Formula 2 qualifying session in Baku proved to be tense, with multiple interruptions caused by red flags following a series of accidents. Several drivers were deemed responsible for incidents and received penalties.
Amaury Cordeel lost his best lap time after a mistake in Turn 13, which brought the session to a halt. Although his result fell outside the 107% threshold of the pole position time, the Belgian was nevertheless permitted to start both races, albeit from the back of the grid.
Victor Martins also had his fastest lap deleted after losing control in Turn 3,dropping from fourth position to 13th on the starting grid.
The harshest penalty was handed to Roman Stanek, whose collision with Jonny Edgar brought the session to a definitive stop. The Czech driver not only lost his best lap but was also handed a five-place grid drop, meaning he will start the weekend from 17th.
Paraguayan driver Joshua Durksen received a more lenient sanction: for rejoining the track in an unsafe manner, he was penalized with only a single grid drop and will line up 15th.
