Haas Completes Two-Day TPC Test at Fuji Speedway in Collaboration with Toyota

The Haas F1 Team has concluded a two-day test at Fuji Speedway in Japan as part of its ongoing TPC (Testing of a Previous Car) programme, running the 2023-spec VF-23 in partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing.

Held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the test marked a key moment in Haas’s technical collaboration with Toyota, which began in 2023. As part of the agreement, Toyota selected the drivers who would take part in the sessions.

On Tuesday, Toyota-backed driver Rio Hirakawa took to the track, marking the first time a modern Formula 1 car had run at Fuji Speedway since the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix. The test was staged during the Toyota Motorsport Festival, with fans in attendance enjoying the rare spectacle of F1 machinery at the iconic venue.

Wednesday saw reigning Super Formula champion Sho Tsuboi get his first taste of Formula 1 machinery. Tsuboi, who also competes in the Super GT championship, made his F1 test debut with Haas in front of a home crowd.

Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu reflected on the event: “Toyota was eager to give Tsuboi this opportunity, recognizing his accomplishments in Super Formula. I believe it was a fantastic moment — particularly as Formula 1 continues to gain momentum and popularity in Japan.”
