Laurens van Hoepen Takes Pole in Montreal

Formula 2 continued its North American stretch with a race weekend in Montreal following the championship’s season debut in Miami. Ahead of qualifying, the top drivers in the standings were separated by just a single point, adding even greater intensity to the fight for pole position.

The qualifying session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve proved to be highly chaotic, with several drivers making mistakes and causing red-flag interruptions. Oliver Goethe and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak were both involved in crashes, while Invicta Racing worked urgently to repair Rafael Camara’s car after contact with the barriers.

In the closing moments of the session, Laurens van Hoepen of Trident unexpectedly secured pole position with a late flying lap. Alex Dunne finished second, while Nikola Tsolov ended qualifying behind the leading contenders.
