Leclerc:Winning at Monza Would Be a Surprise

Charles Leclerc finished qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix in fourth place. The Ferrari driver was satisfied with his performance, though he admitted that his chances of fighting for victory in Sunday’s race are rather slim.

Lewis Hamilton set the fifth-fastest time, but due to a penalty received in Zandvoort, he will start only from tenth on the grid.

Charles Leclerc (4th): “I am pleased with my first lap. Of course, I would not call it perfect I don’t believe a perfect lap exists but it was as close as possible to what I wanted to achieve. I knew it would be difficult to replicate such a result in the second attempt, and that was indeed the case.

When I saw Max’s time,I realized that I had to take maximum risk on the first run.I tried to improve in the second attempt, but I could not go any faster.

I have no regrets, as this is the best starting position we could realistically hope for. Yes, when I briefly went fastest, there was a moment of hope, but our rivals quickly brought us back to reality.

Last year we managed something close to impossible by opting for an alternative strategy, which ultimately gave us the win. This year, however, the situation is different: essentially everyone has the same strategy, and finding something unconventional will be extremely difficult.

I will be very surprised if we win the race, but in Formula 1,one should never say never.”
