Max Hints at Ford WEC Move
Max Verstappen has repeatedly expressed his desire to compete in endurance racing once his Formula 1 career comes to an end including legendary events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Daytona. The existing partnership between Red Bull and Ford, which will see the American manufacturer supply power units to the team from 2026, could provide new opportunities for the four-time world champion. Especially with Ford planning a return to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027 with its own hypercar project.
Speaking in a video for Ford Performance, Verstappen commented: “I’m not sure the next generation of Formula 1 cars will be all that exciting to drive but we’ll see. It might actually turn out to be fun.”
He also shared his interest in various racing categories, particularly GT3, and expressed a desire to take part in marquee events like the 24 Hours of Spa and races on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Still, Verstappen said he is especially drawn to competing in the top-tier hypercar class.
“I want to race in all the major endurance events", Verstappen said.“It doesn’t matter which cars I simply adapt to what I’m given. I drive in the way that gets the most performance out of the car. It’s not about proving anything to others — I just want to be the best. I guess you could call me a perfectionist, because I never feel like I’ve done a perfect job. Even when I step out of the car thinking, ‘That was pretty decent,’ I still see room for improvement.”
