Mekies Apologizes to Tsunoda
Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda started seventh at the Belgian Grand Prix, aiming to score valuable points. However, those hopes were dashed during the transition to slick tyres, which ultimately cost him crucial time and track position.
Tsunoda received the call to pit too late and was forced to complete an additional lap on the wrong tyres, significantly compromising his race.
Red Bull Racing’s new team principal, Laurent Mekies, acknowledged the team's strategic misjudgment:
Laurent Mekies: "That was our mistake. We had planned for Yuki to change tyres on the same lap as Max. Everything was ready — the crew was in place and preparations had been made for both cars. Unfortunately, we called him in too late. That’s on us."
The error effectively ended Tsunoda’s chances of finishing in the points.
