Pat Symonds Joins Cadillac’s F1 Comeback
At 72 years old, Pat Symonds, a name well known throughout the world of motorsport, has decided to return to team operations by joining the ambitious Cadillac F1 project. Symonds previously served as Formula 1’s Chief Technical Officer for seven years, where he played a key role in developing technical regulations and several innovative initiatives.
According to the engineer,Cadillac’s offer made him seriously consider returning to the competitive side of racing but it was his wife who ultimately helped him make the decision. She encouraged him by saying, “Come on, you can be a champion once again.” Symonds admitted with a smile that his wife probably didn’t want him to retire just yet.
He also noted that he had previously assessed Cadillac’s technical proposal while working at FOM and was already impressed by the project’s level of preparation. After visiting the team’s base in Silverstone and meeting the staff, Symonds became fully convinced that the operation meets the highest standards and is supported by a group of excellent specialists.
“Everything I saw made a strong impression on me,” he said. “This is a team of people who know how to win, and we have everything we need to build a competitive car.”
