Pit Stop Gamble:Pirelli Sees One-Stop Race at Monza
This year, the Monza circuit will host the Formula1 Grand Prix for the 75th time, and it is here that Pirelli will celebrate its 500th milestone race, which took place last weekend.
To mark the occasion, the company has prepared special trophies designed by sculptor Nico Vascellari. In the image of the “Chimera,” he combined the symbols of three of the fastest creatures on the planet the peregrine falcon, the marlin, and the cheetah. The trophies are crafted from aluminum, a material also used in Formula 1 cars, and will be presented to the media on September 5.
For the race, Pirelli will once again supply the C3 (Hard),C4 (Medium),and C5 (Soft) compounds. The track surface was fully resurfaced in 2024 and has since stabilized, reducing tire graining. However, team strategies are unlikely to change:the majority are expected to rely on a one-stop strategy.
Overtaking in Monza remains difficult due to minimal downforce settings and the reduced effect of DRS. At the same time, high early-September temperatures may accelerate tire degradation, which under certain circumstances could make a two-stop strategy the more advantageous option.
