Sainz:We’ve Shown Again What Williams Can Do
Carlos Sainz surprised in Baku by securing a spot on the front row: the Williams driver set the second-fastest time, achieving his best qualifying result of the 2025 season. For the Spaniard, this marks a significant step forward, while his teammate Alex Albon was less fortunate he damaged his FW47 already in the first session after completing only a few laps and admitted the mistake was entirely his own.
Carlos Sainz: “Thank you all for the support! We are genuinely delighted with this result the qualifying went perfectly for us. Each time we went out on track, the timing was right, the tire choice was correct, and I managed to set very competitive lap times. Of course, if the top teams had managed to put together a flawless lap, they would inevitably have been faster, but in the end, only Verstappen finished ahead of me, which is entirely fair.
We managed to beat everyone else, and starting from second place is a huge positive! This year, I have often been close to strong positions in qualifying, and today we once again proved that the FW47 has real potential. Admittedly, the races have not always unfolded as we would have liked, but I am confident this car is capable of scoring points.
Tomorrow, the goal is clear to hold position at the front and fight for a podium finish. I will give everything I have to achieve my first top-three result with Williams. If it happens, it will be fantastic; if not, we will still aim to take the maximum out of the race.”
