Williams Confirm Luke Browning as Reserve Driver

Williams have officially confirmed Luke Browning’s contract as a reserve driver. The British racer will be on standby to replace either Alex Albon or Carlos Sainz if required, while continuing his simulator duties to support the development of the FW48.

Alongside his responsibilities with Williams, Browning will make his debut in the Japanese Super Formula championship with Kondo Racing, gaining valuable experience outside Europe.

Browning described the reserve driver role as a natural step in his progression within the Williams Driver Academy and an opportunity to work closely with the race team ahead of Formula 1’s new era. He also emphasized that competing in Super Formula represents a significant challenge and an important move toward securing a full-time Formula 1 seat.

Team Principal James Vowles added that Browning has shown consistent progress since joining the Williams Academy and has already made a meaningful contribution to the team’s operations, noting that racing in Super Formula will further accelerate his development as a driver.
